The Lilies Seller (Argentina)

Synopsis

Jacinta and her granddaughter Indira are Bolivian migrants. During the spring they work collecting flowers on the coast of the river, which they then sell in the cemetery of the town of Magdalena. Their daily tasks are hampered by racial problems that still exist in Argentina in relation to  the ancestral cultures of Latin America.

About the filmmaker

Igor Galuk was born in Berisso, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is a graduate of the Audiovisual Communication degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the National University of La Plata (UNLP). He is a screenwriter and audiovisual producer at Riocine and worked at TV Universidad, Untref Media and Panorama. With his short films -Tunnels on the river (2009), Sabaleros (2013), Palo Blanco (2014)- he has participated in several national and international festivals, among which the Festival of San Sebastián, Locarno, Viña del Mar stands out. The advent of Open Digital Television (TDA) in Argentina, made several documentary series including: Olvidados del Río (2011) y Paisanos (2012), which were premiered on the Public TV and on the Encuentro Channel and awarded in the Nueva Miradas competitions on Television (UNQ). He has just finished his new short film La Vendedora de Lirios (2019) and he is finishing the post-production of his first documentary feature Silencio en la ribera (2020).
